Rapture, Tribulation, and Armageddon
Sunday June 16 2019 12:15pm. to 1:30pm.
We now come to the perspective that seems to dominate modern popular perceptions of Revelation: the scenario that begins when all faithful Christians are whisked up from the earth into heaven in the event known as the Rapture. Afterwards, the rest of humanity will be left behind to face the terrors that occur during the reign of the Antichrist. This scenario blends various parts of the Bible together with some of the places we hear about in the daily news, and in its depictions of a campaign of terror culminating in Armageddon, it contributes to the idea that Revelation is a book to be feared. In this lecture, we will look at this Dispensationalist system in more detail and ask why it has become so popular. We will also note the problems it creates and explore how it relates to alternatives that seem more promising.
