Antichrist and the Millennium
Sunday March 24 2019 12:15pm. to 1:30pm.
In this third section of the course, we will explore what happened after the book of Revelation was written and why it has managed to generate so much debate in Western society over the past 2,000 years. A point to keep in mind as we move through this sweep of Western history is that much of what people have seen in Revelation depends on the assumptions they make and the questions they ask. For example, some readers assume that Revelation provides a literal outline of events leading up to the end of the age, which leads them to ask how much it can tell them about the future. Others assume that the book uses spiritual imagery, which prompts questions about what the book might mean for spiritual life in the present. In this lecture, we’ll see how these different sets of assumptions clashed with each other in the ancient world.
