In the last lecture, we noted that Paul’s letter to the Galatians included a striking description of the Christian community. Paul said that in Christ, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, nor is there male and female.” It’s a remarkable idea, but one that also raises questions about what that might mean in practice. In the last lecture, we looked further at what Paul said about Jews and Greeks in his letter to the Romans. In this lecture, we’ll consider what he says about slaves and free people and about males and females in four additional letters: Philippians, Philemon, Ephesians, and 1Timothy.
